I’ve always had a deep love for music from the intricate melodies of classical to the hard-hitting riffs of heavy metal. Music has always been a part of my life, and that’s what led me to start playing piano and eventually work on Piano Companion. Over the years, I’ve started noticing a bit of a pattern – each type of music has its place in my day-to-day life. Whether it’s for coding, working out, or brainstorming, there’s a genre that just clicks for the task at hand.
When I’m coding, it’s PsyTrance that gets me in the zone. There’s something about those fast beats and repetitive rhythms that keeps my brain in a flow state. I can code for hours with PsyTrance in the background, and it almost feels like I’m syncing with the music. It drowns out distractions and lets me focus on the code. I’ve tried other genres, but none of them seem to have the same effect. The second I put on a PsyTrance playlist, it’s like my mind goes into “let’s get things done” mode.
When it comes to my workouts, especially interval training, it’s a totally different story. That’s where heavy metal comes in. There’s an energy in metal that pushes me harder during those intense sessions. I’ve got this killer metal workout playlist that I rely on – heavy guitar, fast drums, and just pure aggression. It makes me feel like I can take on anything. It’s like the music transfers its intensity directly into my muscles, giving me that extra boost to finish the last set.
But then there are those times when I need to really think. Whether I’m brainstorming new ideas, solving a tricky problem, or trying to come up with a fresh concept, my go-to is binaural beats. It’s the complete opposite of what I’d listen to while coding or working out. Binaural waves are just… calming. They clear my mind and give me space to focus on my thoughts without overwhelming me. It’s like a mental reset button, allowing creativity to flow without forcing it.
It’s crazy to think about how music can have such a profound impact on how we function. Do you use music to shape your day too?
