AI Gold Rush May Be Peaking as VC Money Floods In

A lot of us have been wondering quietly - is the AI gold rush already peaking? VCs poured a massive $104 billion into US-based AI startups just in the first half of 2025. That’s almost as much as all of 2024.

Many of those investors are already trying to cash out. Not through big IPOs, but through quiet, low-value acquisitions. Only $36 billion has actually come back out of those investments so far this year.

What I found especially interesting is how dominant AI has become in VC circles. Two-thirds of all venture money now flows into AI. Meanwhile, other industries like fintech, crypto, and cloud are on life support.

  • Scale AI just raised over $14B… then laid off 14% of its team.
  • Microsoft backed out of several major data center leases.
  • Insiders like Apollo’s chief economist are warning that this might be worse than the dot-com bubble. 🫧

Just because something sounds hot doesn’t mean it’s stable underneath.
