Google’s AP2 Lets AI Agents Complete Payments Securely
Google introduced Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) built on A2A and MCP.
It allows AI agents to securely authenticate, authorize, and complete payments across platforms.
How it works: 1️⃣ Intent Mandate. User says what they want (e.g. shoes, tickets); agent records it as a contract.
2️⃣ Cart Mandate. Agent suggests options - user approves the final items/ price/selection.
3️⃣ Delegated Mode - the agent uses pre-approved conditions to auto-complete the purchase.
4️⃣ Payment Link. Securely connects the user’s chosen method (card, bank, crypto‼) to the Cart Mandate.
