OpenAI Moves Closer to Lawyers with Astra for Law

OpenAI shifted one layer closer to the customer: the lawyer.

Launched Astra for Law. Basically it's the same GPT-6 Asta but with US legal index, workflows. In includes:

  • 230M+ legal papers (covering > 99.99999% of published US case law)
  • 24% more precendant cases found
  • ChatGPT inside Word

But the intersting part - is they started working directly with top law firms and building custom integrations.

Sullivan & Cromwell got contract analysis and redlining. Ropes & Gray got M&A data-room analysis. Cooley got IPO tooling.

Mostly US and I suspect EU won't be included for long time because of ... regulations and fragmented legal system.

Drake expresses contrasting emotions: rejection of API access to legal startups and approval of direct engagement with law firms.
