Solo founders are up in 2025, boosted by AI and speed
In 2025, solo founders now make up 36.3% of all new startups - the highest share in over 50 years (source: Carta). It’s been steadily climbing since 2019.
Thanks to AI, one person can now build, ship, market, and support a product from start to finish. No huge team is required.
Solo founders also move faster - one decision maker, clear ownership, no endless alignment calls.
Comes to mind Midjourney that started this way and went on to define entire categories.
I think the biggest hidden advantage here: Solo founder => No fights => No drama => No partner issues … founder conflicts are one of the most common ways startups die.
I remember that being solo used to be a red flag. Apparently things are changed now.
