Inside Cursor's Culture, Hiring, and Product Bar

Here are some insights about Cursor

Nerdy culture and office Chalkboards, vintage furniture, textbooks everywhere, no logos. Mostly in-person, shoulder-tap culture, few meetings and very "spoken-word".

Recruiting They don’t start with a role but with names. Someone impressive goes into hiring-ideas channel, the company "swarms" them, spins up a channel, strategizes how to win them. Leadership signs off on every hire.

Extreme talent density / ICs are the heroes ~50 former founders ‼️, alumni from top startups and schools. ICs have higher status than managers; even a co-founder still codes full-time. People just grab big problems and own them end-to-end.

Hard work without a 9-9-6 mandate No official brutal schedule, but many people voluntarily work long hours because they’re obsessed with the product and standards. New folks often feel overwhelmed at first, then reframe it as high trust + high expectations.

Dogfooding and ruthless product bar Everyone uses Cursor heavily; internal version is 3 months ahead. Big launches go through sessions where a roomful of devs tries to break the build. They constantly ask: Does anyone use this? Can we kill it?

👉 Ceiling-raising and mission > money Cursor explicitly optimizes for top professional devs, not beginners. "raise the ceiling" instead of "democratize coding". Interviews are intentionally very hard. People barely react when ARR hits $100M; the real excitement is around better code, better tools, and the idea that improving how we build software changes how the world works.
