Why Short Videos Make It Hard to Stop Scrolling

Brainrot. Love short videos - or just can’t stop once you start?

I’ve got bad (good?!) news for you.

According to a recent study, these videos suppress parts of the brain involved in cognitive control. Basically, your self-control button disappears. Your brain literally switches off: should I keep doing this?

BTW, that's exactly why infinite scrolls are so effective.

In other words, it’s not just a classy way of saying "you’re getting cheap dopamine from TikTok". It’s that the reward system ramps up, while conscious control becomes less necessary and you start behaving like an automata.
