Clinical Trial for Stem Cell Spinal Cord Repair

Looks like we're about to cure paralysis.

The US and China (?!) just approved a clinical trial that might actually repair spinal cord injuries. It’s from a company called XellSmart. They’re using special stem cells (called pluripotent cells) that can turn into new nerve cells - the kind spinal injury destroys. It’s off-the-shelf. No need to harvest your own cells - inject and potentially heal.

Spinal cord injuries affect 15 million people worldwide. Car accidents, sports, falls - it can happen to anyone. And right now, there’s no real cure. Just rehab and coping.

It’s still early – Phase I is just starting – but the fact that both the FDA and China gave the green light means that it could be available to the public in 5–7 years.
