Put the Phone Down and Meet Kids at Eye Level

At the park, a 2yo (or 3yo) tugged at his mom’s sleeve after spilling juice. She ignored him, eyes on her phone. His face crumpled, caught between guilt and seeking comfort.

Parents, don't do that. Eye contact is VITAL for kids. It helps build social and emotional connections, enhances communication skills, supports cognitive development, fosters trust, and aids behavior regulation. It teaches them to read emotions, stay focused, and engage confidently in interactions.

Put the phone down. Get on their level. Mirror their emotions. Let them know you’re fully here.
