Musk and Bezos Race to Put AI Data Centers in Space

Looks like the next big tech race: Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos trying to move AI data centers into space (so satellites would be running AI models in orbit).

Blue Origin has been secretly working for over a year on tech for orbital AI data centers. SpaceX wants to load upgraded Starlink satellites with AI compute and is pitching this as part of a deal valuing the company at $800B.

The idea is - use solar power in space and avoid Earth’s power shortages/infrastructure limits.

... though it turns out to be trickier and has its problems

Extreme heat and cooling needs Radiation in orbit High launch frequency and cost Getting data back to Earth fast enough

These are solvable if launch becomes cheap enough, and that’s exactly why SpaceX is betting big on Starship. AI is hitting real limits on Earth: energy, land, regulation (hello European Commission!) Space might become a new layer of compute.
