AI Is Making Software Cheaper to Build

We live in a time when the cost of building software is dropping to nearly zero. It’s fascinating to see how AI is accelerating development and what that means for designers, builders, and entrepreneurs.

The idea that you can ship functional software in just a few hours is mind-blowing. It highlights how AI is reshaping software creation - shifting the focus from technical barriers to pure ideas and execution.

But with this ease of building comes new challenges. The flood of AI-generated apps is filling the internet with low-quality media, code, and content. While AI democratizes access to software development, it also raises concerns about maintaining quality and originality.

So what’s the solution? Instead of limiting access, we should focus on helping users deepen their understanding and improve their skills. Technology should empower, not replace, human creativity.

Despite all the AI-powered tools available, people still rely on what’s familiar. Many businesses still run on Excel, and trip planning often happens in a shared Google Doc rather than a dedicated app. AI won’t take off at scale until it seamlessly integrates into people’s daily workflows.

Design is another key factor. Some fear that AI-generated visuals and automated interfaces will make designers obsolete, but the reality is the opposite - the importance of design will only grow. When software becomes easy to build, the real differentiator is thoughtful, high-quality, and original design.

AI is shifting the focus from how to build software to what to build and why. Execution is becoming less about the struggle to code and more about shaping ideas, curating experiences, and ensuring quality. It’s an exciting shift that raises a big question: how will we use these new tools to push creative boundaries rather than just automate the mundane?
