Context Engineering Is Replacing Prompt Engineering

It's all about Context Engineering

It’s not about crafting the perfect prompt anymore. It’s about giving the model everything it needs to succeed - the right context, at the right time, in the right format. That includes:

1️⃣ System instructions. The hidden settings that shape the model’s tone/behavior. 2️⃣ Current prompt. Your actual question/task/ 3️⃣ Short-term memory. Everything the model remembers in the conversation so far. 4️⃣ Long-term memory. Persistent info like past preferences or summaries. 5️⃣ Retrieved data: files, calendars, API results – basically what RAG systems do. 6️⃣ Available tools. Can it call an API or trigger an action? 7️⃣ Expected output format. Like structured JSON, not just text babble.

A "cheap demo" agent responds like a robot. A "pro" agent sounds human, because it knows your schedule, tone, past convos, and tools.

Most failures aren’t model issues anymore - they’re context failures. This shift from prompt to context engineering is a big one. If you’re building with LLMs, this is the mindset to adopt.
