LLMs Make Code Cheap: Clarity and Accountability Win

Software development as we’ve known it for decades is over.

I read a great post that perfectly captures what many of us in software already feel.

The author starts from the famous Linus Torvalds quote:

Talk is cheap. Show me the code.

That used to be true because code was expensive because it took time/ effort/human limits.

LLMs changed that.

What I found most useful:

Code is no longer the bottleneck - thinking is. Weeks of work now compress into hours if you know what you’re doing.

Old quality signals are broken: clean code, great docs, perfect structure can all be one-shot AI output. You can’t judge quality at a glance anymore.

When code is infinite and cheap, value comes from ownership, responsibility and trust.

Juniors may never acquire foundational understanding, and seniors may stop teaching ... that breaks the generational skill ladder.

Talk beats code now. Human effort is what made code valuable. The real advantage is the ability to explain problems clearly and make good trade-offs.

Code is cheap but clarity and accountability are the new superpowers.
