Customers Don’t Care About AI-Powered Branding

Companies keep showing "AI-powered" everywhere like it’s a magic word. But ... customers don’t care.

Kristen Berman ran a study with 767 software users, and the results were clear - "AI-powered" doesn’t make people trust it more, expect better results, or pay extra. It even backfires. People have seen too much overhyped AI that doesn’t deliver.

So why do companies keep doing it? Investors love AI-heavy branding, SEO rewards AI mentions, and no one wants to look outdated. But that’s a company problem, not a customer problem.

  • Lead with benefits, not buzzwords. Don’t say “AI boosts productivity.” Say “Write 3x faster.”
  • Show, don’t tell. Let people experience the value, don’t make them believe in a label.
  • Use AI sparingly. If you must mention it, tie it to a clear, real-world benefit.

People don’t buy AI. They need solutions.
