Stanford Study Shows AI Boosts Simple Coding, Not Complex Systems

Interesting insights from the Stanford study about AI and productivity, conducted on 100,000 developers across 600+ companies:

️⃣ AI helps more with simple tasks, and this is what I see from my experience (up to 60% gains on low-complexity code, but only ~5% for complex systems).

️⃣ Productivity gains drop as codebase size and complexity grow.

️⃣ Most real-world codebases see ~20% improvement, not huge leaps.

️⃣ AI can speed up delivery, but often at the cost of quality (I’ve noticed this too). You really need experience to know when and how to make the right trade-offs.

️⃣ The complex system integration still requires human understanding (surprise, surprise!).

️⃣ Validation remains the bottleneck, not code writing - especially for high-impact features.

️⃣ Shipping lots without validation = polished 💩. Managers often misuse "just ship it", skipping ideation and validation phases. AI doesn’t solve the problem of what to build or how to validate it. Though it can help with it.

️⃣ AI won’t save bad ideas - customer insights, distribution, and product-market fit still matter most.
