Why Jira Isn’t Enough: Shared Context Beats Tickets

Your issue tracking system (JIRA) is useless alone.

I’ve seen this inside my own projects or companies where I'm involved.

At some point, documentation quietly became the most important part of development. Not tickets, but the context.

Even old projects start moving again the moment you rebuild it. The code didn’t change. Understanding did.

JIRA (or any other issue tracking systems) never captured that and tickets simply don’t know:

what files actually matter why decisions were made how things connect

They’re just a small piece of the puzzle.

Agents change the game. Your team shape context. Each of you are Context Gardener 🌱

Business, devs, QA - everyone feeds the same system: feedback, decisions, code, intent.

And from what I see it's MUCH harder than tickets. Bad tickets slow you down. Bad context poisons the system ... fast.

With agents it becomes even worse, they don’t fix this, they amplify it.

In other words the shift is not:

tickets 👉 docs

but:

tasks 👉 high-quality shared context

And now think about it for a moment - whoever controls context quality controls execution.

A person gestures emphatically while surrounded by a chaotic wall of papers and strings, emphasizing their intense focus on evidence collection.
