How AI Is Changing Conway’s Law in Internal Software

Conway's Law says that software reflects the communication structure of the organization that built it.

But AI is becoming more and more a part of the organization. That means internal software should be designed with AI as one of its users.

If you build a data lake, for example, you should think about how agents will access, understand it, and use it (e.g., by building an MCP layer and a skill around it).

What I found interesting in my own behavior is that I gradually stopped using traditional tracking systems like Jira. I realized they were too complicated for the way I now work, so I built an internal system that directly manages multiple projects and lets me work with agents through it.

An agent can pick up a scheduled/recurring task, start executing it, update its progress, then just notify me whenever it needs a decision from me.

It's not a new concept but it is another example of Conway's Law still working today - AI becomes part of the organization, the software we build starts reflecting that new organizational structure.
